Scope and Contents The first catalog was published in the 1st series of the Journal, v. 4, 1817-1824, The next was made by Isaac Hays, 1824-1834, followed by one published with the Act of Incorporation and By-Laws, 1836. Scope and Contents

These so-called librarian's books record the day to day accessions for the dates covered. In 1885 the card catalog was started by E. J. Nolan, replacing the ledger form of catalog. On the title-page of the 1856-65 volume is a list of librarians and dates of service, signed by Nolan. Edward J. Nolan himself became librarian in 1862 and was for years the only paid member of the staff of the Academy. The Journals cover the years 1845-50, 1850-56; 1856-65, 1865-73, 1873-76, 1876-85.
